Things that separate professionals from amateurs
Already quite proficient in his years before the Earth grudge fear technique, Kakuzu himself possessed an uncanny amount of strength, and for that reason it should have come as no surprise when he so aligned himself with the Akatsuki; an organization filled with nothing but the strongest of shinobi. Capable of taking on Kage level ninja if need be. And speaking of that, Kakuzu served as the only existing shinobi today to have survived a battle with one of the greatest ninja to ever have existed, Hirashima Senju, the Legendary first Hokage. Accumulating practically a century of knowledge, this bounty hunter was well endowed when it came to combat, and even more so being highly versatile. The only true fault which even then served as an augment to his abilities had been his high temperamental rate. Being quite adept in most if not all the Shinobi arts ranging from Taijutsu to Genjutsu. Using his own unique body structure to serve as the center of his strategies.
Able to sustain quite the damage and not fall to the usual inevitable death. Merely because unlike the others, he possessed a total of five hearts, four of which remained within his masked located on Kakuzu's back. However, it was not simply his physical prowess that had served him well, but the accumulation of nearly a century of knowledge under his belt, there was hardly anything that Kakuzu wasn't already familiar with in his life times, and thanks to the Earth grudge fear Forbidden technique; he was able to continue sustaining lives by stripping the beating organs from strong Shinobi. Acquiring their abilities to a certain extent as well.
Earth grudge fear or Jiongu (地怨虞 ). Is a forbidden technique from Takigakure stolen by Kakuzu before he fled the village.
It transforms the user's body into something similar to that of a rag-doll's, which is held together by hundreds of thick black threads. Kakuzu was able to manipulate these threads for many purposes. He was capable of sewing up any injuries that he or others might suffer, most commonly by reattaching body parts.
However, it appeared that this ability was somewhat limited, as he warned
Hidan not to move his head too much after he had sewed it back on, saying that it might fall off again. He could detach parts of his limbs and then manipulate them, to the point that he could even send them underground and then reattach
them when he was done with them
.
The most significant aspect of these threads were that they granted Kakuzu a
form of immortality, although he declined to think of it that way. In addition to sewing up his injuries, he could use the threads to tear into a victim's body, steal their still functioning organs, and integrate them into his own body, thus extending his life. Kakuzu usually used this method to steal hearts from powerful shinobi, and was able to store up to four spare hearts in his body
at any given time, meaning that all hearts must stop functioning in order for Kakuzu to die. He can also put one of those hearts into his limbs and have them move individually, as seen when he used his hand to remove a shadow-enhanced trench knife that prevented the
rest of his body from moving.
